Useful idiots white-wash their favourite Islamo-terrorist

Al Qaeda's useful idiots:
"Canada's largest newspaper, the Toronto Star, teamed up with CBC, the state-run broadcaster,  put out a documentary about Khadr ... Except it's more like propaganda than a documentary.  And couldn't be more pro-Khadr if it had been produced by the Taliban."

Who "created" ISIS? The Republican candidates' dumb "debate"

Mark Steyn with Hugh Hewitt:
...  Hugh was interested in various Republican candidates sniping at each other over which American president is responsible for "creating" ISIS: Was it Obama? Was it Bush? I responded:

... MS: ... in keeping Osama bin Laden and the al Qaeda leadership holed up in Abbottabad and various other places, what emerged free from al Qaeda control was next generation al Qaeda. And there will eventually be a next generation ISIS that will even be more barbaric and evil  ... even if we did nothing, even if we just behaved like Sweden, it would still be there. And to blame it on Obama or Bush or Coolidge or Chester Arthur is completely a waste of time.

... HH: [Sayyid] Qutb [Muslim Brotherhood leader and inspiration for al Qaeda] was radicalized by his time in America ... I'm not declaiming against Western culture. It simply is, if you're going to be provoked by people's lifestyles that are different than yours, you're going to be at war with the West regardless of whether or not we do anything with you.
... even when we weren't decadent, Qutb and his pals thought we were - and hated us anyway. I think the Rand Paul view - that Bush interventionism is responsible for the metastasizing of ISIS - will gain some traction with Republican voters ...
And aren't liberals perpetually blaming America and the West for provoking Islamist terror? You'd think they might stop and consider that for Qutb, al Qaeda and now ISIS it's Western "decadence" that inspires their hate - and the biggest world-wide purveyor of Western, especially American, cultural imagery is uber-liberal Hollywood with its non-stop, big-screen caricatures of American crime, sex, violence and "capitalist greed". Hollywood didn't "create" ISIS but it's sure doing more than its share to keeping the hate going.  And it's these same liberals who have the chutzpa to rant against Pamella Geller, accusing her of provoking Muslims with her relatively miniscule anti-Islamist campaigns.

A rarity - an oil industry CEO unafraid of radical adversaries

Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson tells it like it is

It is rare to see an oil executive publicly taking on his radical environmental adversaries.

... Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson came under predictable attack at the company’s annual meeting in Dallas this week from climate radicals and the Catholic Church, in the form of a friar and a nun, but his responses were conspicuously free of the kind of climate apologetics issued last week by Suncor’s Steve Williams
... Tillerson said his company was not going to “fake” excessive concern for a matter on which the science was still highly uncertain.

...He didn’t “deny” the slight warning trend of the past century (which has stopped for most of the past two decades), but he pointedly noted that climate models “just aren’t that good.”

... He also expressed unfashionable faith in human ability to adapt ... “Mankind has this enormous capacity to deal with adversity,” said Tillerson. “Those solutions will present themselves as the realities become clear.
... One of the most predictable warm up acts for Paris is due to trot into the arena shortly in the form of a Papal Encyclical on climate.  ... Exxon in fact reportedly sent a delegation to the Vatican recently, but it didn’t go to genuflect before climate religion
... Among the paths of appeasement that Exxon Mobil has refused to walk down are those of renewable energy
Truly a breath of fresh air.

Rex Tillerson for global CEO of the decade!

George Jonas on Alan Borovoy

George Jonas: When my old leftist friend, Alan Borovoy, saw the light
A few days ago I reminisced about an old friend in this space, the founder and General Counsel of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, A. Alan Borovoy, who passed away last weekend.

... I noted that he and I agreed on almost nothing, except the importance of liberty.

... Central to our debates were Canada’s human rights commissions: The laws and institutions Borovoy and like-minded civil libertarians, mostly leftwing activists, created, or at least played a major role in creating, ... Alan and his friends couldn’t imagine how civil liberties had anything to fear from laws and organizations they themselves, champions of civil liberties, were bringing to life.

... In the 1980s, with civil liberties already halfway down the throat of the voracious state, Alan was still dismissing the slippery slope as a shopworn myth. It took him another decade and a half to change his mind.

... By 1998 he did. “Ever since the government embarked on a course of trying to outlaw expressions of hatred, it’s shown that there is a slippery slope. One thing has led to another,” he said in relation to a proposed “hate speech” legislation in British Columbia. ..

... once he saw the light, Alan didn’t pull his punches. He was as outspoken in defending freedom against his own creation, the human rights bureaucracy, as he had been defending it against its traditional enemies.

"White privilege" theory - academia a waste of time and money, and worse

Rex Murphy:
I’ve seen the captious phrase “white privilege” — a camp neologism by my reading — very often lately. It emerges from the intellectual marshes of social justice “educators,” a typical pseudo-concept from that roiling pastiche of academic pursuit.

... The obsession of seeing everything in race-coloured terms is itself racist. Anti-racism pursed by zealots transforms itself into the very vice it deplores. This is the cost of identity politics, and its close bedmate, victimology enterprises. ...

... It is to the great shame of modern universities that they have debased themselves to the pursuit of these follies ...
The radical academics who push this po-mo nonsense should be run off our campuses, and the faculties from which they push it should be shut down.  They are clearly a horrendous waste of taxpayers' money, but, much worse, they are polluting the minds of gullible young students and damaging society at large.

An absurd response to an absurd Supreme Court ruling

Canada's legal education system is producing a surplus of bozos and nitwits (aka liberals).  They are everywhere, most notably even on the Supreme Court.  Dimmer bulbs settle for serving as counsel to cities.  The Richmond Hill city council's legal team, taking an absurd Supreme Court ruling to an even more absurd extreme, appear not to have read even the first sentence of our constitution:

"Liberal" idiocy is out of control! We're doomed!

Alberta's radical new premier's radical new chief of staff hates Alberta energy

Just frickin' lovely!  Here's Ezra Levant with Brian Topp's resumé:

Can things get any worse for Alberta and Canada?  You bet they can.

That phony 97% consensus

The number 97 has become an almost magical symbol among true believers for their righteous belief that man-made global warming is a dangerous threat.  Both clueless believers and those who ought to know better shamelessly peddle that number as if it were some absolute truth.  Skeptics (aka "deniers"), on the other hand, try again and again to explain what is really going on.

Ross McKitrick: Climate change consensus among the misinformed is not worth much
In the lead-up to the Paris climate summit, massive activist pressure is on all governments ... to fall in line with the global warming agenda ... One of the most powerful rhetorical weapons being deployed is the claim that 97 per cent of the world’s scientists agree what the problem is and what we have to do about it.

... on what exactly are 97 per cent of experts supposed to agree? In 2013 President Obama sent out a tweet claiming 97 per cent of climate experts believe global warming is “real, man-made and dangerous.” As it turns out the survey he was referring to didn’t ask that question, so he was basically making it up.

... The Canadian government has the unenviable task of defending the interest of the energy producers and consumers of a cold, thinly-populated country, in the face of furious, deafening global warming alarmism. Some of the worst of it is now emanating from the highest places. Barack Obama’s website says “97 per cent of climate scientists agree that climate change is real and man-made…Find the deniers near you — and call them out today.” How nice.
True believers will no doubt be appalled by Prof McKitrick's heresy.

A realistic assessment of Omar Khadr and his lawyer

Christie Blatchford is one of the few mainstream media commenters who doesn't think of Omar Khadr as some kind of benign victim, if not hero:
... what Edney is doing is unorthodox and arguably even a risky mixing of the professional with the personal. While your lawyer is your best friend and sometimes your only one when you’re in trouble, he doesn’t usually move you into his house.
... I wonder if any lawyer who has so devoted himself to a client, can see him or her clearly.
... Edney also [accused the prime minister of being a mean, anti-Muslim bigot]This was one of those examples of a defence lawyer imagining he has the exclusive patent on principled conduct, which is ridiculous. ... it’s loathsome to ascribe the worst of motives – racism – to the prime minister.
Omar Khadr has spent his entire adult life immersed in radical Islam and jihad.  It stretches credulity to the extreme to believe that he has all of a sudden transformed his thinking and his allegiances.  No doubt al-Qaeda and Khadr view Dennis Edney and Khadr's media cheerleaders as some of their most useful idiots.

Khadr and his scumbag lawyer greeted by a compliant media

Ezra Levant parses a couple of Omar Khadr's first media scrums:

Omar Khadr's performance wasn't too surprising, and we've come to expect supine, even fawning, media coverage of Khadr; but what was most interesting was the disgusting behaviour of Khadr's scuzzy, extremist lawyer and media coach, Dennis Edney, an unfortunate Scottish transplant of George Galloway's ugly, al-Qaeda sympathizing ilk. As one commenter noted:
So Edney spews all sorts of defamatory, slanderous invective against Harper, then turns around the next day and asks for “respectful” treatment of his (not presently) jihadi client.

Rob Ford interview

Ezra Levant with Mayor Rob Ford before his big surgery:

Divider-in-Chief

Dreams Into Dust: The Speech on Race Obama Will Never Give
... Many Americans, whether they voted for him or not, believed Obama when he said: “There is not a black America or a white America or a Latino America or an Asian America; there’s the United States of America.” When he gave that speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, he was an instant national sensation.

... After six years of this administration, we now know the real Barack Obama. President Obama could have finished the job of binding up this nation’s wounds. But this man was never about healing racial wounds. Instead, he used the office of the presidency to fan racial tensions and to exploit select, isolated incidents, all while pretending he is a uniter, not a divider.

Who is the real Rachel Notley? How worried should we be?

Ezra Levant provides some interesting background and parses her election night speech:

A 51 year-old politician wears a Che Guevara wristwatch? Good grief!

Ezra's Financial Post column today: Albertans wanted a broom, not a hammer and sickle

Where was Preston the night the Alberta PC music died?

Megyn Kelly exposes more American head-in-the-sand cluelessness on free speech

Yesterday, Megyn Kelly attempted to school Bill O'Reilly on free speech saying that he was, siding with those who want to silence the critics of Islam - ie. siding with the jihadists.

On tonight's The Factor, O'Reilly doubled down on his cluelessness, saying that what Pamela Geller and her organization were doing and saying is "stupid".  Kelly's response:
"The relevant question is not: Did those under attack say something offensive? The relevant question is: What do we do about a group that wants to kill us for exercising our constitutional rights?"

O'Reilly and Fowler (and most of his lib/left ilk) are equally dense on the notion of free speech. All they want to debate are the wisdom, or otherwise, of what Geller is saying and how she says it.  That's fine, it's a debate they can have with Geller but it's entirely irrelevant to this incident.  What they don't want to talk about are: Geller's freedom to say what she said, and; how to deal with those who mark her for murder for saying it.  But what O'Reilly and Fowler say they want is for Geller stop saying what she said (or to say something else) to avoid upsetting her wannabe killers - which is exactly what the jihadists want. That other, non-violent Muslims may be upset by Geller's speech is also irrelevant.  They are free to criticize her and to try to convince her to take a different approach.

Update: More from Megyn Kelly this evening

Pigs have flown in Alberta

Bye, bye Jim Prentice!!

The NDP took the cities.  Guess all those PC's were more progressive than conservative.

Aaacckkk!!

Ezra Levant reacts: "God help us all!"

Pamela Geller attacked by first by Islamist terrorists - then by feminista media hacks (she "asked for it")

Ezra Levant:

Ezra with David Menzies: "For radical Muslims everything is provocative".

Media clueless on free speech

The Muslim jihadist attack on the Garland Texas Mohammed cartoon event hosted by Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer proved once again that the leftist media (which is to say nearly all of it) is completely out to lunch on the meaning of free speech.

Megyn Kelly's interview with Robert Spencer:

Even Bill O'Reilly comes off thick as a post on the subject:

Here's Pamella Geller with a clueless CNN host:
